If you’re like most people we work with, you’re more familiar with uncharted waters than hiring a lawyer to work for you. So, we put together a few tips that will help you in the process.

  1. Interview the prospective lawyer –pay attention to personality, communication, and willingness to work with you.

  2. Understand precisely how you will be charged for work performed on your case. Most personal injury lawyers charge a contingency amount (typically the percentage is 33.33%.)

  3. Ask a lot of questions specifically about your case but also about the lawyer’s practice.

  4. Discuss timeline and what to expect during the pendency of your case.

  5. If the lawyer tells you the value of your case at the initial consultation, RUN, do not walk from that lawyer’s office. At the initial consultation, the lawyer does not know enough about your case to make a value determination. It is only after reviewing the liability, medicals, and witness statements that a lawyer can make a determination about value.

Hopefully this list helpful. If you have any feedback or think we should add anything, send us a quick note!
